May 11, 2010Posted in: PhotographyThrough the icy blackness, riders circled Highline Lake in Western Colorado for the 18 Hours of Fruita mountain bike race. Starting at midnight, the racers in teams of four, two or solo road the seven mile course their headlamps blazing little tunnels of light burning a path through the night down the single track trail. With the slow lifting of the dark six hours later, the most visually compelling part of the race was over, but only the first third of their adventure was completed.

Great montage, or mountaintage as the case may be!
Oh rad, beautiful images!
Thank you! It was very surreal. No light from a moon and the racers flying past with little cones of light projecting from their helmets and handlebars. I couldn’t see who anyone was so I played with slow and rear sync flash and long shutters to capture the light and motion.
Love the pics! And it looked like fun.
