Such is the incongruity of beliefs born of fear and perpetuated by ignorance. Until we balance the inequities of our educational system, independent thinkers will be rare, even among the more fortunate, and we will continue to be oppressed by the tyranny of fear.

It is ludicrous that Obama has been accused of socialism as well as fascism, which are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. But then there are those who seem to be happy with only one arrangement, either they are in power, or they will do anything necessary to return to power and nothing else matters.I find it interesting, especially being from a different country watching how MSM, pundits and both wings seem to be standing, arms folded on their chests, toes tapping, expecting immedate solutions and results to problems that took decades to develop. Can you imagine if they had used this powerful a microscope on the previous administration?

I would like to see another ‘-ism’ become popularized, ‘common-sense-ism’. Even before the rise of Fox and Hate Radio, these people were able to demonize certain words in the public mind by rather Pavlovian conditioning techniques. Socialism was one of the first words to gain this kind of baggage, since right wing billionaires saw themselves as losing power and wealth if socialist principles prevailed in the public mind. Since the 1980s, they have succeeded in doing the same with the word "liberal," despite the fact that everything about the founding of the American democracy and its subsequent improvement of people's lives represent the triumph of liberal principles; and in the South in particular, "labor union" received the same treatment ("news" reports would often use the terms "labor bosses" and "crime bosses" interchangeably). Note that changing people's perception of words does not change how they feel; they just substitute new words. For example, the revival of the old term "progressive" is a replacement for the now-loaded word "liberal."

There’s a simpler explanation of the fear of socialism: for all of my life time, most media outlets, radio, television, newspapers and film studios, have been owned by very conservative people; only the fact that most of the journalists and artists that they hired were more representative of the whole political spectrum kept any kind of balance in what was presented to media consumers as the world of fact and reality. buying into the propaganda by the well oiled machinery of non socially conscious corporations. The fact is America has been dumbed down by toxic chemicals, TV soundbites and images in the media to create an unconscious citizenry. Until Americans, awaken from the dull slumber of passivity and see who the real enemy is, our own thought process and inactivity in government, and granted the Internet has helped somewhat. Still we are dealing with a very uninformed, ostrich in the sand peoples. Every generation awaits another generation to create this awakening and I am sorry to say it will not be the Reagen-ism thought process of my generation, the 40 somethings, where most of us are lulled into false security . We need more flower power as it were!

While socialism may be an overused description about government playing daddy to its people Americans are<br
