The trailer for The Messenger features Willie Nelson singing Amazing Grace, which in and of itself would make it perfect Dog Canyon viewing.
But more importantly, the film–co-written by Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman–promises to be a stunner. This is Camon’s first screenplay, but he’s long produced intelligent movies, such as Thank You For Smoking, as well as my all-time favorite film, Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus.
Moverman makes his directorial debut with The Messenger, but he previously co-wrote the masterful film adaptation of Jesus’ Son, based on a book of short stories of the same name by my friend and mentor Denis Johnson.
The Messenger is set for release in theatres in November. And there’s already talk of Woody Harrelson as an Oscar contender for Best Supporting Actor. To read Austinite Charles Ealy’s plug for the film and tips on viewing click here.
As soon as I see the film myself, I’ll come back with a Dog Canyon report.

Wow. That was intense.
Mary:
Thanks for posting The Messenger film clip. Hopefully this movie will cause voters to begin questioning why our troops are sacrificing their lives overseas for the benefit of United States corporations.
Please consider reviewing “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers”. This movie premieres this week and is on the top of my must see film list.

“A Must-See! Crams a wealth of material into 90 minutes without losing clarity or momentum. Focuses on (Ellsberg’s) moral turnaround, which directly impacted history. A unique fusion of personal and social drama.” – Ronnie Scheib, Variety “
