The Messenger: A Must See Film

The trailer for The Messenger features Willie Nelson singing Amazing Grace, which in and of itself would make it perfect Dog Canyon viewing.

But more importantly, the film–co-written by Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman–promises to be a stunner. This is Camon’s first screenplay, but he’s long produced intelligent movies, such as Thank You For Smoking, as well as my all-time favorite film, Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus.

Moverman makes his directorial debut with The Messenger, but he previously co-wrote the masterful film adaptation of Jesus’ Son, based on a book of short stories of the same name by my friend and mentor Denis Johnson.

The Messenger is set for release in theatres in November. And there’s already talk of Woody Harrelson as an Oscar contender for Best Supporting Actor. To read Austinite Charles Ealy’s plug for the film and tips on viewing click here.

As soon as I see the film myself, I’ll come back with a Dog Canyon report.
